February 28 - Online Discussion Question 1
Rocky turned 16 and got his driver’s license. His parents bought him a beater, but he has to buy his own gas and insurance. He mowed lawns all summer and has some money, but the cost boggled his mind. He went to a shoddy storefront and bought minimum liability, a high deductible, and no collision. When his mom and dad found out what he’d done, they weren’t happy about it. He can’t understand why. According to the state, he has what he needs. It isn’t fair for his folks to demand more. Or is it? What do you think?

i think rocky should shop around first and see if he can get a better deal, also his parents shouldn't be mad if he cant afford anything better

Since his car is older and he can't afford the highest coverage available, I think he made a good choice. He should talk to his parents about why they think he needs different coverage and then decide if he's going to shop for a new policy or keep the one he has.
ReplyDeleteRocky should shop around first to see if he can get better deals, and his parents shouldn't be upset if he couldn't afford anything.
ReplyDeleteRocky needs to take his time and look at all the deals, not just one, and if that is a better deal he should take it while he can. With this being said he should be discussing this with his parents beforehand so they understand what he's going to do.
ReplyDeleteI agree, he needs to shop around for better deals for his insurance and talk to his parents. He could also get a part-time job besides mowing lawns as well.

He needs to shop around and make sure what he is getting is the best deal. He should also try to talk to his parents about it so that they can understand what is going through his head.
ReplyDeleteHe should shop around, also he may be able to get a better deal by "riding" on his parents plan. But with his car being older and less valuable having liability and no collision isnt a bad way to save money.
ReplyDeleteI don't think his parents should be upset with him because he has an older car and he also can't afford to buy more coverage. He should talk to his parents and find out why they are upset and shop around a little just to see if he can get more coverage.
ReplyDeleteIt's an older car so it's not too bad to only have that much but he should probably still shop around first and try to find a better deal.

According to Dave, a old beater car is not worth buying a high replacement insurance on it because it is not worth anything. The liability insurance was a great idea though, this way he is covered from being sued by anyone else. The high deductible will keep his payments low but the question is whether his has enough money to cover that deductible?

I think he should have shopped around more… check out his options and look for the best price.
