February 28 - Online Discussion Question 3

Allen and Grace are blessed. Their moms are still alive and self-sufficient thanks to Social Security and modest pensions. Their dads had life-long jobs from which they retired. Both died after drawn-out illnesses that depleted their assets. Neither mom has any long-term care insurance, and they share a common interest in not talking about such a morbid, depressing subject. When Allen or Grace bring the subject up, they laugh and wave it off. Should Allen and Grace leave the subject alone?

  2. Allen and Grace should not leave the subject alone. Even though their moms aren't going to like it, they should keep on trying to talk about the subject and get their moms to get some long-term care insurance.

  6. No. Everyone should purchase long-term care insurance at the age of 60. If the children cannot convince the moms to agree to acquiring long-term care insurance and they continue to refuse to talk about it, the children might want to take action and get the insurance for them.

  9. No, they should pursue it while being respectful because it is a touchy subject for their mothers. Long term care insurance is important to have and they should discuss why and if their mothers still don't want to listen, I think the kids should take action and buy some for them if they're financially able.

  11. No. The insurance they have through pensions and such are not only not dependably but they are also won't be enough to cover any long term care.
