Jason and Beth are married and don’t have any kids yet. They are out of debt except for their house, and have a full emergency fund. But Beth’s car has sputtered its last breath. Fortunately, she’s found a great car for $8,000. Beth only has $7,500 to spend. Explain to Beth three negotiating techniques she can use to get the deal she’s looking for.
Walk away power
ReplyDeleteIf I take away technique
Thats not good enough
Beth can use:
ReplyDelete1) Cash power! She could offer them $7,000 cash for the vehicle and try to convince them to accept that price in cash. (Telling the truth always, of course)
2) "That's not good enough!" technique. If they keep on trying to keep the price at 8 grand or very near it, she could just say "That's not good enough."
3) Walk away power. If she just cannnot get them to come down on the price substantially, she can just decide to leave the car behind and try again another day. Maybe even tell the seller that she will probably look for the car somewhere else (if she will actually do it).
1. Use cash because it is visual and has immediacy.
ReplyDelete2. Show that you have the ability to walk away from the purchase.
3. Make it clear that what ever the seller is offering isn't good enough.
1) use cash
ReplyDelete2) say, "thats not good enough"
3) say nothing once you get closer, stand there and look at the car but don't say anything

1. She can show them her cash, giving her visual aid
ReplyDelete2. Be able to say, "that's not good enough"
3. Use silence if necessary
4. Be able to walk away if the offer doesn't meet up your standards.
1. Use the walk away power
ReplyDelete2. If I take away
3. Cash.
